Real-Time Rating and Discounting
In the highly competitive telecoms market, innovative products and services associated with compelling rate plans can heighten the complexity of operators’ billing systems and configured rate plans.
The diversity of product packages, tariff plans and migration options increase the possibility of incorrect billing configurations. These offers are usually configured in convergent billing systems where multiple access technologies and billing methods are implemented. Due to the complexity of these billing systems, and the variety of packages available, there is a significant risk to the integrity of the rating process.
RAID RV performs revenue assurance for the various rating processes within an operator’s network. It allows the operator to automate the validation of rated xDRs for different billing systems. The operator verifies that subscribers and wholesale partners are charged correctly by the relevant billing systems for services delivered by the network. Rating Validation automates the validation of rated xDRs for the operator’s different billing systems (e.g. Interconnect, Customer, Roaming and Wholesale Billing).
The Rating Validation module is configured to take xDRs that have been rated by an existing billing/ rating system (e.g. Postpaid Billing System, Intelligent Network node) and recalculate the value of the xDRs based on a user-defined rate plan. The Rating Validation module then reports any discrepancies between the original value of the xDR and the rerated value calculated by Rating Validation.

New rating concepts can be introduced as often as required, without needing updates to the core system to incorporate the changes. Rating Validation rate plans are configured using Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets.

- Rating Validation includes an advanced rating engine that addresses the various types of rating scenarios that can be encountered across different rated streams and customer billing systems.

- User-defined rate functions
- Ability to test functions before they are deployed by using the Web GUI

- Rate Plan Inheritance to define rating and discounting models and then reuse them across products and services
Reporting
- RAID Rating Validation has the ability to simultaneously extract high level reports and drill down to the individual records of data upon which the reports are based.
- Web-based reports and Business Objects Management reports (standard package) are available.
- The Daily Reporting Web Page allows the user to:
- View daily summary statistics
- Move back and forth in time to view older and newer sets of daily summary totals
- Configure the number of days displayed in the graph
- Choose a layout from several chart types
- Click through from a point in the chart and drill down to view the individual CDRs behind the daily totals

Rating Validation provides a set of easy-to-use interfaces, allowing the operator to report, measure and monitor the KPIs in a visual manner.
Reports like Daily Summary Reporting, Job/ File Summary Reporting, Adhoc CDR Reporting are available by default in the tool.The operator can use ad hoc form to perform flexible queries and can define the reporting measures that wishes to view.
The tool has default measures available but the operator can add user-defined measures. |

The Rate Trace Tool is a Web based GUI tool that allows the analyst to select individual CDR Files and track the progress of the rating of the individual CDRs in the file, using a step by step approach through the GUI.
This provides the analyst with a powerful capability to both test the newly created rate plans and to investigate specific rate validation errors that might be reported by the system. |
