RAID Usage Control
Ensure all records are collected to deliver accurate bills

Subscribers start generating events in the network as soon as they start using the products and services provided by an operator. These events are the individually billable occurrences of product usage that are typically captured by a network.

RAID Usage Control (UC) monitors the collection of usage data for telecom services. Metrics on user behavior and service usage can be monitored and analyzed in order to bill a subscriber for their consumption (e.g., voice call duration, VOD ordered, bandwidth used).
Whether your business model relies on the charging of minutes of usage or bytes of traffic, RAID Usage Control is the perfect tool to guarantee that none of your service usage gets unbilled.

RAID UC monitors the xDR generation process at the switching centers and/or service platforms until its inclusion in customer invoices. Signaling or session data can be included in the reconciliation process. Aggregated data is collected from several measurement points along the revenue chain. This data is then reconciled using historical, cross-system, and threshold validation rules. Alarms are then produced based on the inconsistencies found.

RAID UC delivers:
  • Different levels of views into the xDR flows in the networks. These range from high level reports, KPIs, and aggregated views by service or revenue stream, to detailed CDR-level views for individual network elements.
  • An integrated environment allowing business events to be captured from many OSS/BSS systems, and other endpoints, without impacting the operator’s IT infrastructure.
  • A scalable, low latency ETL that enables very high performance event processing.
  • Control mechanisms to check the path of network events from the switch to their inclusion in the bill, guaranteeing that usage is accurately reflected in customer billing.

The product identifies faults, errors, and quality of service for a set of relevant events individually, and measures response times across the revenue chain, thereby determining service levels. The accurate recording of all required information in a Usage Detail Record (UDR) depends on the logic of the vendor’s switch plus the switch-specific table entries. If either of these cannot record the data accurately, the mediation system will be unable to recognize the completed calls and pass them to the billing system.

The most common errors that cause revenue leakage within an operator’s network that RAID UC addresses are, as follows:

  • Non-generation of xDRs
  • Data loss during file transfer
  • Incorrect application of business rules
  • Decoding errors
  • Configuration errors
  • Accidental deletion
  • Software faults

As increasing volumes of data continue to flow in and out of telecom organizations, operators need to manage and monitor this data to ensure important data events are not missed. Complex Event Processing (CEP) helps operators achieve operational responsiveness by uncovering events or event patterns in data streams that may signal new opportunities, critical threats, or changing conditions.

RAID - LTE Ready
Non-correlated records – The RAID system can handle non-correlated information to build data records. The UC module monitors the revenue chain, from the xDR generation at the switching centers and/or service platforms, to its inclusion in the invoices sent to customers.
New equipment - RAID can collect data from OSS/BSS. This collection is made using integration agents. The processes and data to be collected by each system are configurable, and RAID also includes readers for some of the LTE equipment vendors.
Processing capabilities - The improved data capabilities and associated all-IP networks will stimulate the creation of a wide range of new services. Highest speeds will be achieved by deploying a large number of base stations. With LTE, it is event data will increase by 10-15 times. The RAID Integration Module is a high performing ETL that is stable in the most demanding environments, and is capable of addressing the high volume requirements of LTE.
