Assuring the accuracy of balance calculation for all prepaid subscribers in the CSP network

CSPs are seeing a significant reduction in long-term wireless contract subscribers. Meanwhile, the prepaid market continues to have a major influence on the telecom market’s growth.
The launch of the 3G standard saw the telecom industry’s global revenue increase by 11 percent. With 4G’s potential of exponentially increasing broadband availability, the resulting global revenue surge is expected to reach an unprecedented level.

According to some market analysts, prepaid is the largest and most vulnerable revenue stream for most CSPs. Prepaid revenue can represent up to 90% of many CSPs total revenue. Since prepaid CSPs operate in real-time, they require more dynamic revenue assurance procedures to avoid losses. The prepaid services market continues to grow in terms of subscribers and services offered. Service providers require prepaid revenue assurance solutions with support for all services, including Voice, Data, Content and SMS.

RAID Prepaid Balance Validation (PBV) enables WeDo Technologies’ customers to ensure the accuracy of balance calculation for all prepaid subscribers in the network, by validating that all balance-affecting transactions (usage records, top-ups, adjustments) have been correctly applied to each subscriber’s balance.

PBV not only verifies the accuracy of balances, but also monitors and reports anomalies in the IN (Intelligent Network) such as negative balances, duplicate or invalid balance-affecting records, and very small/large top-ups and adjustments such as promotional credits.

RAID PBV takes extracts at various control points from systems involved in the balance maintenance process.  The PBV module’s main objective is to perform revenue assurance for the prepaid rating processes for a network operator, and is achieved by applying the following steps:

• Periodically take balance extracts
• Continually store usage and adjustment records
• Regularly perform balance validation

Usage totals, top-ups and adjustments extracted from the network are used to calculate correct account balances independently and to report any inconsistencies detected.

Reporting for Marketing Analysis

Marketing teams can use PBV to analyse multiple prepaid items like prepaid customer base characteristics, campaign achievements, and the success of new plans/services:

  • How do my subscribers top-up? For example, the top-up amount, interface used (ATM, USSD), etc. 
  • Who are my best prepaid subscribers? 
  • What is the initial usage of new plans/services? 
  • What is the increase in top-up due to a specific campaign? 

Reporting for Risk Analysis
Risk Management Teams can also use RAID Prepaid Balance Validation to create prepaid subscriber risk-factor analysis:

  • What subscribers top up several times a day?
  • What subscribers have a large prepaid balance?
  • Who is making high value top-ups?
  • What Customer Care adjustments occur? For example, who is doing them, what types are being used, how often, etc).
  • What prepaid subscribers have the highest usage?
  • What subscribers have negative balances?

RAID - LTE Ready
Non-correlated records – The RAID system can handle non-correlated information to build data records. The PBV module can monitor usage totals, top-ups and adjustments extracted from the network are used to calculate correct account balances independently and to report any inconsistencies detected.
New equipment - RAID can collect data from virtually any OSS/BSS. This collection is made using integration agents. The processes and data to be collected by each system are configurable, and RAID also includes readers for some of the LTE equipment vendors.
Processing capabilities - The improved data capabilities and associated all-IP networks will stimulate the creation of a wide range of new services. Highest speeds will be achieved by deploying a large number of base stations. With LTE, it is event data will increase by 10-15 times. The RAID Integration Module is a high performing ETL that is stable in the most demanding environments, and is capable of addressing the high volume requirements of LTE.
